Question of the day

(I received one of these bracelets Sunday. Click on the picture to read more about the MLC world bracelet program.)

If you do a kind act, but your heart is not feeling kindness, does it negate the kind act?? I'd really like to hear your thoughts on this.

i.hope.not.

i hope that by doing that kind act, we have accessed the kindness that is in us...even if, at that moment, it is a small part.

i hope.

because i do this often.

I don't think it's negated. In fact, it could mean that much more. Think about it...if you do a kind act but aren't feelin' it then that means you had to force yourself to do it, making it a REAL act of kindness. It's easy to be kind but when you're not feelin it it's hard. Follow thru anyway!

Wow. Great question. I think that brings up the issue of altruism- doing something kind without expecting or needing to gain anything for yourself... maybe??

I don't think so, as long as the person on the receiving end feels cared for at the time. Its all in the perception of the gift not how we necessarily intend or how we feel. thats just like even if we say something nice to someone and feel like we mean it, if their perception doesn't take it that way than it didn't work, as much as we may have wanted it too. It's all perception, I would love to talk about it more!
